"Developed in the 42nd year of the first Garlean emperor's reign, these grenades are designed to be hand-thrown by infantry."-Official Description
Needless to say, the Mark XLII Grenade is your go-to solution for any of your problems! Savages entrenched behind fortifications? Throw a grenade. Savages charging you on chocoboback? Throw a grenade. Savages fighting against your just attempts to enforce law and order to ensure stability on the frontier? Throw a grenade. Toilet clogged? Throw a grenade. Spouse telling you that you need to talk about your obsession with grenades? Throw a grenade. Catgirls vying for your attention? Throw a grenade. Your own countrymen turning on one another in a war of succession? Throw a grenade! Your friends and family turning into abominations wrought from pure despair?
Throw a grenade! Can't take it anymore? There's a solution for that, too, it's called
"THROW A GRENADE."Also includes a small edit to the Wind-up Sun/Moon minions, making them invisible.
A huge thanks to taco1932 for teaching me how to import models as vfx and helping me find a suitable throwing sound, pharren for helping me fix a bug making the grenade invisible and fixing the gltf model's UV mapping, and to dast.5316 for teaching me how to add target vfx to animations that don't have an actor 1 by default.
For a
less-than-lethal more boring alternative, check out the Stun Variant, found here:
https://www.xivmodarchive.com/modid/88163Q&AQ: Does this grenade actually exist in the lore?
A: Yes! It shows up in the side quest Explosive Profits in The Peaks in Gyr Abania.
Q: Where can I get the /throw emote?
A: It is unlocked by completing the side quest Toss Fit Workout Coerthas Central Highlands in Coerthas.
Q: Why did you include an edit to the Wind-up Sun/Moon minions?
A: Because the throw animation lacks an actor 1 by default, throwing the grenade without a target will make it blow up in your hand (as it recognizes the player character as the only actor). Since the Wind-up Sun/Moon are the only static minions that have their names displayed above their models, making them invisible turn them into convenient placeable targets that can help visualize where you're throwing the grenades.
Q: The grenade blows up on me when I try to gpose with it, how do I fix this?
A: When you enable Face Camera in gpose, the game recognizes your character as actor 1. If you disable it and target either an NPC, friend/party member, or a minion like the Wind-up Sun/Moon, it will work as intended. Unless you want a gpose of yourself getting blown to bits.
Q: Where can I get the Wind-up Sun/Moon minions, then?
A: They can both be bought for potions from the Magic Pot on the Isles of Umbra in Western La Noscea.
Q: Where is the model from? It looks like a Thermal Detonator from Star Wars.
A: My thoughts exactly! It is labeled as Imperial Grenade in Anamnesis, but it's actually a projection device used in the quest Forever in Our Hearts.
Known Issues:• Due to the grenade model being bigger than the snowball model, the player character's fingers may clip into it before it's thrown. Since it's a minor issue that's only noticeable when gposing while holding the grenade, and all attempts to fix it have failed, this is now considered a feature.
