This weapon pack is intended as a love letter to Final Fantasy IX. The name is taken from the summoner village of "Madain Sari" found on the games Outer Continent. While the weapon choice itself: a Dagger, is a reference to the alias that Princess Garnet uses while traveling with Zidane and the party.
The jewel in the guard is a red Garnet. Another reference to Princess Garnet, as well as a reference to the stone that allows her to summon Bahamut. The Ribbon wrapped around the finger guard is Mog's Ribbon. An item that allows Eiko to summon Madeen.
While both of these summons are considered the most powerful they can acquire naturally as part of the story; The Pumice, featured on the pommel of this dagger, allows Garnet to summon the most powerful summon in the game: Ark.
Known as "γ΅γγη³, FuyΕ«seki, lit. Floating Stone" in Japan; the Pumice served as a reference to the original Final Fantasy; where the "Floating Stone" was required to repair the airship in that game.
In Final Fantasy IX the Pumice could be acquired in two different ways. Either by defeating the superboss Ozma and receiving the item as a drop; or by obtaining two (2) Pumice Pieces, defeating the superboss Hades at the end of the game, and then using his Legendary Synthesis Shop to create it.
I'd like to think in the world of Final Fantasy XIV that the village of Madain Sari was founded by survivors of the Fourth Umbral Era.
Soldiers and Summoners alike who survived the tumultuous tremors that consumed the Allagan Empire by virtue of being aboard an experimental new "Ark-Class" battle cruiser. It's artificially designed Pumice-based "Float Stone" allowing it to stay aloft nearly indefinitely while bearing it's passengers to safety. With the empire gone, and weary from the constant campaigns of conquest it waged, the survivors of Madain Sari would settle into a secluded and peaceful existence; with the summoners passing down their art to each generation.
They would even pioneer new techniques; such as storing an Eidolon's essence in items aetherically-aligned with that of the summoned creature. Typically gems or rare ores unearthed in the wake of the calamity; these techniques would allow the summoners to not only reduce their risk of being aetherically warped or tempered, but also allow them to pass these Eidolons onto others.
The titular dagger of this mod would be an item crafted as a symbol of the village and a tool for it's ceremonial rites. Forged from metals salvaged from the now long defunct battle cruiser, and adorned with items containing the essence of powerful Eidolons:
A Garnet - Originally used in experiments carried out in Azys Lla; it contains a portion of Bahamut's aether and was brought from there aboard the ark by one of the original survivors as a keepsake.
A Ribbon - Originally gifted by the residents of Madain Sari to the first child ever born in their village; it has since become a symbol of each generation's hope for the future passed down to the next. The accumulation of aether and faith has led to the birth of a powerful eidolon within: Madeen.
A Pumice - The very Float Stone of the battle cruiser itself. The hopes and prayers of it's passenger's as it bore them to safety from the Fourth Umbral Calamity has led to the will of the ship itself to manifest as a powerful eidolon within: Ark.
