Melanogenesis: The synthesis, or molecular creation, of melanin, the pigment of skin cells.
Melanogenesis is a skin texture mod which adds macular discoloration to the body textures of tall female models. These maculae are observable symptoms of several conditions including vitiligo, which this mod focuses on representing. These textures are compatible with asymmetrical Bibo+ and symmetrical vanilla textures.

Melanogenesis provides:
- one stock .pmp modpack with toggles to enable textures on individual races, including Scaleless Au Ra. This will only affect the multi/specular maps (_s and _m and the body materials _a and _bibo.)
- one .psd workfile for the affected multi/specular texture map.
- one .png overlay that can be used for both the multi and as a layer mask template for the diffuse.
- and a short written guide with visuals for creating loose files using Melanogenesis.
To reduce initial download requirements on XIVModArchive, only the .pmp is included through direct download. Please reference the Google Drive, which is provided under the "Files" tab in the "Other Files and Links" subsection, to use the workfiles, overlay, or documentation! Please note that the documentation is labeled as NSFW due to the depiction of diffuse files that show NSFW textures.
All provided textures are 4k (4096 x 4096 px). The provided modpack uses BC7 compression for these files.
Melanogenesis is dependent on Bibo+ materials and textures and Atramentum Luminis shaders.
For this mod, all of my general permissions apply, with no additional requirements; please see my Trello for a list of those permissions!

At the moment, one pattern (non-segmental, generalized vitiligo with a focus on the limbs and lower chest) is provided with the mod. I plan to add more textures and separates over time based on further references and will cross-post any updates on social media.
Melanogenesis’s update roadmap also includes:
- Lalafell vitiligo;
- …HR3 vitiligo maybe? I’ve never worked with it so take that with a grain of salt;
- Au Ra scale vitiligo…?;
- compatibility with body hair;
- troubleshooting finger/toenail compatibility;
- and non-vitiligo discoloration patterns.
