Update: Fixed a performance issue with the backup function. Added a function to select currently unassigned vertices during manual mode.
Blender addon that creates an index map (indicator for material and color rows) for selected objects.
Works in either fully automatic mode, which tries to match similar looking UV islands in the same area together onto the same material row or a manual mode, which lets you manually assign vertices to groups which will then share the same color / material row.
Additional features:
- Padding around UV isle to avoid edge bleeding
- Selecting multiple objects / parts to combine their UVs onto the same map
- ripping the selected mesh along it's UV seams to avoid vertices potentially being assigned to two groups at once
- automatic backup of the meshes you're working on as to not mess up their weights (or vertices if you rip them)
Usage: Import either the zip or py file in Blender's addon section, then use the "Index Map Gen" plugin tab in the main viewport. Note that index map generation might take a moment and freeze Blender in that time if certain features (mostly island padding on large textures) are enabled.
