Q&AQ: Exactly how prevalent are gunweapons among Garleans? Aren't they exclusively available to high-ranking officers?
A: While seemingly not as widely available as less sophisticated weapons such as swords, bows, and axes among the Garlean forces, we see multiple cases of gunweapons being used. Rhitahtyn sas Arvina's gunshields, Livia sas Junius' gunbaghnakhs, Nero tol Scaeva's gunhammer, Gaius van Baelsar's long gunblade, Nael van Darnus' gunhalberd, and Menenius sas Lanatus' gunlance would imply that they are exclusive to high-ranking officers if considered in a vacuum, however one should not ignore the Decurion NPCs armed with gunblades encountered in Castrum Meridianum and elsewhere (whose Garlean title canonically is pyr), Grynewaht pyr Arvina who is first encountered wielding both a gunhammer and a gunshield, and then later fought wielding a gunsaw in the dungeon Doma Castle, Annia quo Soranus who wields gunbaghnakhs in the dungeon The Ghimlyt Dark, and finally Jullus pyr Norbanus, who is seen carrying a gunblade at his hip. Because the 'pyr' title is used by junior officers according to Encyclopedia Eorzea Volume 1, we can reasonably conclude that Garlean gunweapons are available to junior officers and above.
Q: Did you plagiarize the gunhalberd, gunblade, and gunshield from other mods?
A: No, they're the intellectual property of Square Enix and are readily available to everyone in the game files. I also think there's a difference between doing basic import/exports of unedited weapons, and doing something transformative with them, such as editing them into new things like the gunaxe and gunkatana, or creating bespoke abilities.
Q: You do realize there's already a gunaxe in the game, right? It's called Palaka Gunblade and it drops from the Vanaspati dungeon.
A: It doesn't look
Garlean enough. Also it looks to be a musket rather than a revolver, and since it's a Gunbreaker weapon it isn't designed to be held by Warriors. The gunaxe I made is. 🙂
Q: Why did you use Rhitahtyn's gunshield instead of Varis'?
A: I think Varis' gunshield is too embellished, and besides, the one used by Rhitahtyn seems more prevalent (as it is also used by Grynewaht).
Q: Why not make a gungun?
A: I don't think any gungun I'd make could top teka's gungungun. You can grab it here if you are interested:
https://www.xivmodarchive.com/modid/95554Q: What about a gunbow or gunknuckles?
A: That was planned, but the weight painting was botched and I couldn't figure out how to make the arrow firing look normal for the gunbow, or the gunknuckles sit normally on the player's wrists. Rest in peace. 😦
Q: Okay but you forgot all the healers and DPS mages... aren't you going to make gunweapons for them?
A: This modpack has all the gunweapons you could possibly want, and I'm not going to cater to the niche of magic-using heathens!
Q: Not even the Dancers?
A: Not even the Dancers.
Q: What about the Reapers, though? They're like the only Garlean class.
A: A gunscythe was planned, but unfortunately, Harpe sucks. It's okay, though, because the Reapers have been outlawed and made obsolete by Magitek anyways.
Q: Do you plan on updating this for 7.0's graphics update?
A: Most likely, yes.
Known Issues:
• Due to limitations of the animation editor used, the animations have some minor jank during their transitions.
• Even as of 6.55, we still don't know whether Garlemald will consolidate its remaining territories and elect a new Emperor to lead it as an Empire (albeit significantly reduced in power and territory), become an oligarchy led by ultra-rich senators like The Russian Federation, return to being a republic like The People's Republic of China, or transform into something entirely different.
