In 1950 the Finnish Army was looking to replace it's by now obsolete of a mix of German and Soviet weapons and vehicles.
The main arm of the Finnish Army had long been the Mosin-Nagant bolt-action rifle, and as the assault rifle became the de-facto new mainline weapon for infantry, the Finns equally looked to developing one of their own.
With the new AK-47 and the Soviet Union as their primary geographical opponent, a rifle chambered in 7.62x39mm made sense. Just like during World War 2 when the Finnish Armed Forces made great use of captured stocks of Red Army ammunition, being able to feed your service rifle with captured enemy supplies greatly eases the burden of logistics.
The RK-62 was based on a Polish license copy of the AK-47 and developed in the late 50's to early 60's, and is a robust, reliable and remarkably accurate assault rifle. It features a unique 3-prong flash suppressor that can be used as a wire cutting device. Unlike the AK-47 which has it's sights further forward toward the gas piston housing, the RK-62 features sights mounted towards the rear.
I'm intending to do more Scandinavian and Nordic weapons in the future because they're cool.
Please look forward to it! Torilla tavataan!
